About Us

The Chestnut Tree Collective is a non-hierarchical, grassroots, anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian group of community members committing our time to helping empower our community. All are welcome to participate and contribute. We can be found all across the greater Charleston area. We have existed for years under various names but always maintaining the same projects. As a "collective" all members have an equal share in starting, contributing to, and managing the projects we have. We hope to unify and empower the people of Charleston in hopes of promoting sustainability and autonomy in our community.

Attention South Carolina "Subversive Orginizations"
As if the state of South Carolina didn't have enough of a reputation, recent legislation now requires subversive groups to register with the government. A registration fee of $5 and the necessary paper work is now required for all groups seeking to overthrow the government. The law states that "every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States ... shall register with the Secretary of State." The new legislation can be reviewed here For those of you in SC who wish to register the form can be found here

I assure you we aren't dead
I finally got around to updating the site for the new year. So much has changed. With the death of the infoshop most of the contributing members to the chestnut tree projects have disbanded, but all the projects haven't died. North Charleston FNB is still alive and well, we just finish another awesome free market, and the homestead is likely getting its lease renewed in the spring and The old infoshop library is now in outerspace, charleston newest community space. Check out the NEW Projects Page for more info on helping out.
Most importantly the new year is coming and i think a Chestnut Tree Collective Meeting is in order. keep an eye out on the calendar for the official date.
